Flight delay and Travel from Airport to IIT took its toll, and I couldn’t reach in time to attend the first session. I surely missed a pretty interesting start, from what I hear. Thankfully to our helping organizer at IIT, Abhinav, things were running pretty smooth otherwise.
The first session was about How Digital Video Shooting is different than old fashioned 35 and 70 mm Film making. It was pretty much a knowledge and technique skills session. where first Mehul explained in details the pros and cons of digital as well as film based shooting. He also explain in depth, the process of how the film reaches to audience, and how digital revolution will be so full of advantages over the routine procedure.
Neha took her turn, and started with the basics of film language. The necessary grammar that includes Composition, Framing, Angles. The theories were also demonstrated by carefully chosen and cut scenes from classic films, to precisely show and make it easier to understand what theory was just explained.
I reached as about this session was going to finish, and after introducing my self to the group, we took a quick break and then begun the individual session for batch 1.
Here, I took my unfinished part of skill session, which included lighting and effects and how crucial it is in filmmaking. All theories were done by then. The next thing was to start the process of actual film production.
Mehul and Neha took their turns to explain concept forming and storyboarding with examples. Around that time, we also conducted the small interesting activity of making a storyboard and learning to follow it, from a simple idea. The activity was well participated in. The enthusiasm level was high when the session ended, and we let the first batch leave, after dividing them in 5 groups and giving them the homework to come up with an idea+storyboard, that they would make a film on, in the next session they were going to attend on day 2.
The next two sessions for Batch 2 and Batch 3 were the repeatation of the First batch’s individual session. Albeit, even at the end of the tiresome day, the adrenalin level was still high when the third batch left with their instructions to make the storyboards.
We took our leave to our guest house rooms, tired but ready for the Day 2, which was going to be a real challenge for all three batches. The actual production of the films.
